Baby it's too cold outside!!

Since January hit, we’ve been bombarded by cold weather! I know we’re in Atlantic Canada and we should expect it, however we were spoiled, we have a very mild fall and December carried on with that. This being said, it’s been hard to get my butt off off the couch and get out and pound the pavement However, this past week I couldn’t avoid getting out there, training for my second marathon officially started last Sunday January 4.
I have decided to run the Scotiabank Fredericton Marathon as my second marathon. It’s a lovely route as I ran the half there last year, and how could I say no when a large portion of the gang from the Bedford Running Room has signed up!?? So week 1 down and 40 km completed, I’d say it’s in full force. I did chicken out on Tuesday’s 6k Tempo run, with the windchill it was -27 and just couldn’t bring myself to getting out on the road. So instead I drove over to the CFB Stadacona, an ran the 150m track there. I have to say I felt a little like this:

But at least I got it done, then I didn’t guilty for whimping out haha which is generally what happens when I skip out on a run.
Then it was just my 10k tempo I was left to get in during the week, which you know, shouldn’t have been as hard as it was to do. I put it off on Wednesday and Thursday as it was just too cold for me, and the only thought that kept going through my head was

Unfortunately my running/cross training plans for Saturday were thrown out the window when I received the type of phone call you hate to get when a loved one is travelling on the highway ” I’ve been in an accident.” I received that phone call yesterday morning around 8:45 am from my husband who was heading back out to Greenwood ( where he’s posted and we’re in the process of moving to). The roads were full of slush and ice and our little car hit a patch and went off the road, taking two guardrail posts with it. The Fiat took it like a champ, and thankfully my husband walked away from it unhurt!! A car can be replaced, he can't

So after watching my husband all day and checking on him this morning, I headed out to meet the gang for my Sunday Long Slow Run. On the training schedule it called for 10k at an average pace of 6:45min/km, however I didn’t want to drop so far back in the distance so I decided on a lovely 16k! It was a beautiful Sunday morning, no wind and it was only -2!! It hasn’t been this warm in a while, so we had to take full advantage of it. Thankfully I had some great running partners this morning, dodged some icy , slushy spots on the sidewalks and the bike lanes, I got in a wonderful 16.4km at a 6:40 average pace! This run was much better than they have previously been, must mean I'm getting my running groove back!!!! The way I look at it now, my pace is only going to get better as the distance increases and of course we incorporate some hill training!
Not a very good selfie taker, you'll figure this out as I begin to blog more lol
So tell me:
What are you training for?
What do you use to get yourself out in the cold?
